Although LinkedIn is a virtual network, lawyers should be sure to treat it with the same care as the community they are connected to off-line, says Toronto legal business development expert, Jane Southren.
“You should support its growth, you should avoid toxic influences on it and you should prune it where necessary. That means being smart about the invitations you make and accept, participating in the groups and communities you are in, cultivating the relationships you have on it, and also ending those connections when it becomes necessary to do so because the relationship has become unhealthy in some way, just like you would when dealing with people off-line” says Southren, director of professional business development at Lerners LLP.
